She holds licensure as a clinical mental health counselor in Vermont and Massachusetts and is a board certified music therapist. Shanna’s past clinical work focused on treating adolescents with complex trauma in alternative school and residential settings. This work inspired her to pursue a post-graduate certificate in post-traumatic stress studies at The Trauma Center in Brookline, MA.
In 2014, Shanna became the Director at Pelham Academy in Lexington, MA, a residential program for adolescents healing from complex trauma. During her tenure as Director, she implemented a variety of innovative programs, including an expressive therapies program and the opening of a second campus designed to support residents in the development of independent living skills and access to the community. Shanna studied with Kristine Kinniburgh to become a trainer in the ARC Framework, which informed her work at Pelham Academy and most recently her role as the Area Manager of Children, Youth & Families Outpatient Services at HCRS in Hartford, VT.
She has served as Adjunct Faculty in the Expressive Therapies Division at Lesley University since 2010 and has supervised Master’s level interns from a variety of school and clinical training programs. Shanna has been an active member of her professional community, holding a board position with the New England chapter of the American Music Therapy Association and presenting at regional conferences.
Shanna currently lives in Newbury, VT with her husband and two dogs. She enjoys singing, cooking, yoga, meditation, spending time outdoors, exploring new places, and snuggling her pups!

Kalie Harrington is a Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, Certified Clinical Trauma Professional, and Registered Yoga Teacher. She brings over a decade of clinical experience to her role as Clinical Director at Averte. Kalie holds a BA in Sociology and a BSW from Vermont State University at Castleton, and earned her MSW from the University of New England (UNE), where she also completed certifications in Trauma-Informed Care and Aging & Diversity.
Kalie specializes in the treatment of trauma and stressor-related disorders, with a focus on somatic and mindfulness-based approaches, as well as applying Trauma-Informed Care from a systemic and macro-level lens. She is trained in Trauma Center Trauma-Sensitive Yoga (TC-TSY), the first yoga-based, empirically validated clinical intervention for complex trauma and treatment-resistant PTSD. Clinically, her area of interest is Complex PTSD (CPTSD) and the use of evidence-based, body-centered modalities to support healing.
Throughout her career, Kalie has facilitated and developed Trauma-Informed trainings across a variety of settings—including healthcare facilities, correctional institutions, and yoga studios—working to increase trauma sensitivity and competence in systems that serve survivors. Her work is rooted in the belief that sustainable change begins from within: for organizations to truly be Trauma-Informed, they must model those principles in their internal culture and staff support systems.
Most recently, Kalie was the owner and clinical director of her own virtual private practice based in Portland, Maine, providing trauma therapy to survivors who identified as women, transgender, and/or nonbinary. Through her practice, she offered psychotherapy across multiple states, led Trauma-Informed Care trainings, consulted with agencies, and facilitated Trauma-Informed Yoga Teacher Trainings. Prior to that, she served as a psychotherapist in a maximum-security prison, providing care to individuals with severe and persistent mental illness on a specialized psychiatric unit. Kalie has worked on both the East and West Coasts, serving diverse populations—from gang-involved youth in the San Francisco Bay Area to survivors of complex trauma in private practice on the East Coast.
Kalie is deeply passionate about building Trauma-Informed systems of care from the inside out, emphasizing the importance of embodying these principles within our own organizations. At Averte, she is committed to cultivating and nourishing an internal foundation where sustainable, Trauma-Informed practices can truly thrive.
Kalie is a lifelong music lover and frequent traveler, often chasing live performances of her favorite artists across the country. Kalie is thrilled to be back in Vermont with her husband, daughter, and their two beloved “wolves” (pups, but she has her suspicions…)—and is excited to be part of such a dynamic, energetic, and capable team.
